Before transitioning into the wonderful world of UX, you might have found me assisting a doctor on a cavity treatment or designing marketing materials to help promote a service.
My journey begins with my first design role back in 2015. I was a graphics specialist for a film studio on my college campus. My role mainly focused on creating marketing materials for campus-wide events.
When I wasn’t working on a project, I was volunteering on a student film or writing a paper for one of my english classes. With so many interests and skills under my belt, I couldn’t decide on what to do after college!
As a way to support myself financially, I accepted a job offer at a Children's Dental FunZone. While working at there, I got promoted four times. I started off as a phone operator with zero knowledge of the dental field. Three months later, I was promoted to the front desk. Three months after that, there was an opportunity to learn dental assisting. As someone who enjoys taking on new challenges, I jumped at the opportunity and became one of the top assistants within 6 months. Throughout my time in these roles, I continued growing my skills as a graphic designer and volunteered to work for friends, family and my local church.
In April of 2019, as Children’s Dental FunZone established their marketing team, I volunteered on their creative projects. This eventually landed me a part-time graphic design position. For the next couple of months, I held two positions: dental assistant and graphic designer. In September of 2019, I was offered a full-time position as a graphic designer.
The next step in my career is to obtain a role where I can combine my graphic design experience with the complete understanding of user centered design.
I have 5 years of graphic design experience and I’m excited to start a career as UI/UX Designer. Before transitioning into the wonderful world of UX, I was a graphic designer for a children’s dental company with 14 locations across Southern California.
